These transparent glass wind chimes, with bubbles and wrinkles that made them unsuitable for painting, were discovered at Shinohara Furin Honpo, a long-established Edo furin shop that specializes in randoseru leather strips. The strips themselves are made from randoseru leather from Tsuchiya Kaban, which would otherwise be surplus during the manufacturing process. By combining these two elements, we have upcycled them into vibrant, transparent glass Edo wind chimes.

We are a glass specialty shop with stores in Ginza and Asakusa. Two glass artists created our original glass Hina dolls for us.
Makiko Yoda @glass_makiko
She used Kiriko cutting techniques to express the overlapping layers of the Hina doll's juni-hitoe kimono and the Dairi doll's sokutai (court attire). Gold leaf is also applied within the glass. Each Hina doll, with its delicate color palette, is given a Japanese name of a spring flower.
You can choose your favorite combination from two colors for the Hina doll (Violet/Dandelion) and two colors for the Dairi doll (Pale Asagi Blue/Pale Red Plum).
Mari Kawamura @gaku.kabutoyama
She focused on creating plump, round-shaped dolls that sit side-by-side, perfectly palm-sized. They contain pale, gentle-colored glass beads, reminiscent of Hina-arare (colorful rice crackers). Silver foil and bubbles are also incorporated into the glass, making them sparkle when light hits them.
Hina dolls are displayed once a year with prayers for health and happiness. For off-season storage, they are provided in a paulownia wood box that can carefully preserve them. You can display them by placing the included felt and a golden folding screen on the lid of the paulownia wood box. We introduce glass art that enriches everyday life.

The elaborate layers of the princess's junihitoe and the emperor's sokutai robes are expressed using kiriko cutting techniques. Gold accents are also applied within the glass. Each doll, with its delicate color scheme, is given a Japanese name of a spring flower.
You can choose your favorite combination from two colors for the princess (Violet/Dandelion) and two colors for the emperor (Light Blue/Pale Plum).

We requested a pair of palm-sized, round-silhouetted dolls that sit cozily side-by-side, meticulously crafted with a plump shape. Edo Kiriko is often associated with vibrant red and lapis lazuli colors. However, when it was first created during the Edo period, the prevailing design was simple, colorless and transparent, with only one or two patterns applied.
This colorless and transparent Edo Kiriko is its origin. This delicate and sharp Japanese cut glass, also known as "giyaman" (meaning diamond), combines traditional designs with a modern aesthetic. We invite you to experience this "colorless kiriko," a product of TSUCHI-YA's ideas and the artisans' skills.

Their work represents a new style of Edo Kiriko, blending the techniques of "Hira Kiriko" (flat polishing) and "Suna Kiriko" (sandblasting). With Suna Kiriko patterns applied to the bottom, when you pour a drink, the pattern reflects and appears on the sides. We encountered a translucent glass wind chime with bubbles and wrinkles at Shinohara Furin Honpo, a long-established Edo wind chime maker known for their randoseru leather strips. This particular wind chime was unused because it was deemed unsuitable for painting. We combined it with randoseru leather strips from Tsuchiya Kaban, which are repurposed from excess leather generated during the manufacturing process. By combining these two elements, we upcycled them into a colorful, clear glass Edo wind chime.

A long-established glass bottle manufacturer and a sandblasting glass artist helped us bring this idea to life.

We are a glass specialty shop with stores in Ginza and Asakusa. Muromachi Glass Craft is Tsuchi-ya's original cut glass brand. We have created crystal glass wine glasses through cuts made by Junichi Nabetani, a master of traditional crafts. The cut glass with space is carefully polished and finished by hand by craftsmen, so there are a limited number that can be produced. There are three types: Champagne, Bordeaux, and Burgundy. The bowl section where the wine is poured features the traditional Edokiriko pattern "Nanako (fish scale) pattern," and the base has two types of patterns for each of the three types. These are "Kikutsunagi," a representative Edokiriko pattern that expresses the continuous appearance of chrysanthemum flowers, and "Nozomi," an original pattern inspired by a "spider web" which is said to bring happiness.
