It's that time of year when we start looking forward to the cherry blossom forecast. I'm not a fan of crowds, but the cherry blossoms always captivate me. When I lived in Ueno, I used to walk among the happy people under the cherry trees almost every day during this season.

Shiina Kiriko's cut glass features a delightful trick: when you pour water into it, the cherry blossoms carved into the bottom are reflected on the sides of the Edo Kiriko glass.
The cherry blossom pattern on the bottom is created by sandblasting. The delicate and lovely expression of the cherry blossoms is a testament to the high level of sandblasting skill.

Another major characteristic of Shiina Kiriko is the beauty of "Hirakiriko," one of the Edo Kiriko techniques. Hirakiriko is a technique for cutting the surface of the glass flat. The cut parts serve as a canvas for the cherry blossoms to bloom on the glass.

While I love the soft pink cherry blossoms seen during the day, I also have a fondness for the pale cherry blossoms seen on a slightly chilly night.
As I consider that a leisurely cherry blossom viewing, perhaps by taking a slight detour on my way home, would be nice, I look forward to the cherry blossom season this year as well.
