Production began in the mid-19th century by order of Shimazu Nariakira, the 28th head of the Shimazu family.
Though production ceased once due to various wars, it was revived approximately 100 years later.
The artisans excel at creating color gradations known as "bokashi" and strive for elegant designs that will be admired even a century from now.

It comes in a paulownia wood box.
If you would like a gift wrapper (noshi), it will be placed inside the wrapper (uchinoshi) and then wrapped in paper for shipping.
