19世紀中頃、島津家28代斉彬の命により製造開始。
幾多の戦禍により一度途絶えるが、およそ100年の時を得て復元。
「ぼかし」と呼ばれる色のグラデーション表現を得意とし、100年後も素敵だと思われる品格あるデザインを目指している。
