Kobayashi Glass Art Studio | Tokyo
Crystal Glass | Kiriko, Sagging (Kilnwork)
Founded in 1908, the studio's techniques are now carried on by the 3rd generation, Yoshiro, and the 4th generation, Kohei. They create intricate and opulent all-over patterns, as well as jewelry, and even produce glass blanks from scratch using their original "sagging kiriko" technique. Kobayashi Glass Art Studio is one of the "Edo Kiriko" workshops with a history spanning nearly 100 years. The studio is currently run by the 3rd generation, Yoshiro Kobayashi, and the 4th generation, Kohei Kobayashi. This particular glass was crafted by Yoshiro Kobayashi. Yoshiro is a prominent figure in the world of "Edo Kiriko" in Japan, having received awards at the "Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition" organized by the Japan Crafts Council, and his works have been selected as gifts for dignitaries such as former Russian President Gorbachev.
