This regular octagonal pattern, known as "Hakkaku Kagome" (octagonal basket weave), is a representative pattern of "Edo Kiriko" (Edo cut glass). "Kagome" refers to the mesh of a bamboo basket, and this pattern was named as such because the area around the octagon resembles the mesh of a bamboo basket. It was devised by Haruki Ishizuka, a Japanese traditional craftsman belonging to the same workshop.
