Traditional craftsman Yasuto Kosaka has always wanted to make lacquer easier to use in modern life. He developed a technique to apply lacquer to glass, which is a familiar part of our daily lives. Unlike wood, glass is inorganic, and the lacquer tends to peel off during the drying process, making it difficult to do so. Drinking beer from this glass, which is the culmination of the maker's strong desire and high level of skill, may be exceptional.
A long tumbler, rare in Edo Kiriko
This original tumbler was commissioned by TSUCHI-YA to be made by Junichi Nabeya, a traditional Edo Kiriko craftsman. Each of the roughly 3mm-wide, regularly-spaced stripes is cut with a sharp diamond blade. The perfect weight and texture of the glass gives a comfortable feeling every time you touch it.

When you pour sake,
cherry blossoms dance in the glass
The long, cut facets serve as a screen, reflecting the cherry blossom carved into the base. When you pour sake into the glass, the cherry blossom pattern engraved on the bottom is reflected on the sides, creating a blooming cherry blossom scene. This is known as a "Shikake Kiriko" (trick cut glass). It is made using a two-layered overlaid glass, with pink glass called "kin-aka" (gold-red) overlaid on a light blue base.
